Foundation and Empire

Lorna Stimpson (above) apparently just announced at the CABE conference last week a wizard idea of creating a new organisation called the Building Safety Competence Foundation which will compete for training and registering qualified building inspectors. (Competition? Hang on…. I thought… Oh never mind, carry on). It will be separate from LABC but (no stop, please you can’t be serious) Yes, she’s going to run it.

That LABC sound again.

But… don’t all rush to join because it’s not yet been set up, has no backing by any organisation but looks to be a money-spinning move for the Directors. More about them in a later blog I reckon.

Stimpson was apparently at pains to reassure everyone that we can choose another training and registration provider. But, guess which one LABC is going to push? There will apparently be a large aircraft hangar set aside for next February for LABC employees to take the exam and according to her “Approved Inspectors if they are brave enough.”

Quite whether they will be “brave enough” knowing that Stimpson herself marks some of the papers (despite telling everyone she is not competent) is a moot point.

Early reports from the CABE conference were that everyone loves the idea of a central registration body but not this delivery mechanism as it looks looks to be an extension of LABC.

Plus, it’s is not a patch on having someone professional do it properly.

Like CABE for instance.

More to follow no doubt once CABE have worked out why they invited her to speak and compete with them but failed to invite the private sector who constitute a large number of their membership.
